Drivers Education Online Updates

As of 2023-2024 school year - the Drivers Ed fee is $185 for GSD students.


The Utah State Board of Education has released the new online Driver Education course. This course meets the classroom licensing statute for the state of Utah. It provides a virtual option supported and hosted by AAA (American Automobile Association). It is an alternative to regular in-person high school driver education. Interested students, parents, and counselors must carefully consider student motivation and self-determination skills.

  • 60 days to complete the AAA online coursework Jan 17-March 17

  • Driving is scheduled at one of our ranges from March 23-May 9

Here are the important facts

  • Cost: $170.00 ($140.00 Driver Education fee + $30.00 Online course fee)

  • The fee must be paid before January 17, 2023

  • No refunds.

  • Pay the fee through Granite Online webstore or over the phone at 385-646-4239–DO NOT PAY AT BOUNDARY SCHOOL

  • Fee waiver accepted before January 17, 2023

  • Sign-up with counselor starting Jan 3

  • Independent learning. No instructor support. Technical help may be available through AAA.

  • This is a rigorous online self-paced mastery learning course.

  • Students must achieve 80% proficiency before progressing on all assignments, quizzes, and tests.

  • One-quarter elective credit for the course, one-quarter elective credit for driving. Pass/fail grade.

  • The course must be completed within the 60-day limit. No exceptions. Students will need to retake their driver's education if not completed by the deadline.

Class begins: January 17, 2023 Must be completed: March 17, 2023

NO EXCEPTIONS

This course may not be suitable for all students


Steps

  1. Prerequisite: obtain a valid Utah learner’s permit

  2. Sign-up with a counselor through Granite Online-space is limited

  3. Pay $170.00 fee to Granite Online. 385-646-4239

  4. Receive an email containing the AAA course redemption code. Create an account. Log in and begin work.

  5. Complete all assignments, quizzes, and tests. These are computer-regulated by AAA.

  6. 60-day limit to finish the AAA course. January 17, 2023 – March 17, 2023

  7. Print the completion certificate and submit to instructor through Canvas.

  8. Submit all signed disclosure forms for driving using Canvas.

  9. Create an account for the online driving scheduler. An email will be sent containing a unique link for the course.

  10. Login to the scheduler and sign-up for

    1. 2 - two-hour range sessions

    2. 6 - one half hour road drives with an instructor.

  11. Driving begins March 23, 2023. Driving must be completed by May 9, 2023

  12. When driving is completed sign-up online for a driving skills test at Utah Driver’s License Division (DLD).

Please tell me how I can record driving lessons online? I'm on your site, but I can't find this tab. It would be great if you could record a training video on your website. If you don't know how to do this on your Mac, just learn more about Screen Capture as an option and you will be able to record without any problem.
